Bio:

Jasper Marino was born and raised in Santa Cruz, Ca. by the renowned visual artist Will Marino and organic farmer Mary Odegaard. His work has been influenced by countless members of the Santa Cruz ceramics community. Shout out to Joel Megan for a rigorous apprenticeship, Mark Levy, Sam Clarkson, Cathrine McBride, and Sylvia Rios, for encouragement and instruction, and to the Hennigs, Mattie Leads, Kevin and Nina Wall, Carlos Die, Liz Crane, and the rest of the local legends for inspiration and support!

Artist Statement:

Jasper Marino pays homage to the physical and cultural landscape of Santa Cruz and the bay area in his work. One of his signature series of mugs and tumblers features hand painted silhouettes of redwood, fir, and live oak trees iconic to the central coast of California. Another one of his classic designs draws on techniques from calligraphy to carve away clay from the mug, bowl, or plate leaving intricate patterns that reflect a refined and organic aesthetic.
